The Gnostic Cain

By Jon Towers

You can’t really put all the Gnostics in the same pile. It is true that Gnostics are a “big tent” group but the tent part is made out of big heresy and the poles and ropes that hold the tent up are the multiple details and theories of that heretical thought. As an example, in the days of Rome in the Second Century, there was a sect of Gnostics called Sethians. The Seathians believed that Adam and Eve’s third son Seth was a savior figure and the source of Gnosis. However there was a also a contemporary group of Gnostics that also venerated Cain they were called the Cainites.

Besides Cain the Cainites were REALLY hated because besides venerating Cain they also identified with Judas. They were like a group of high stakes contrarians. The Idea behind this Judas thing is something I have been thinking about since I was a young Sunday School boy listening to these wild tales at New Life Baptist Church. Why does everyone hate on Judas? If Jesus needed to be tortured and nailed to a cross to save mankind from their sins and the only way this happens is if the Romans arrest him, it seems like Judas did us a solid. Right?

These Gnostic Cainites believed that Adam was not the father of Cain but Lucifer or The Serpent was the father of the first son. In fact The Serpent impregnated her with the breath of his words. The duelist ideas and the hatred for the material world of  was passed from The Serpent to Eve and then to Cain himself.  The Gnostic Cain could care less about pleasing the Tyrant God and couldn’t even understand the reason why God wanted the sacrifice. He intended to kill his brother to release him from the prison of the material world and the time prison. When confronted by YVH Cain would go on to explain that he hates the world and that God is the ignorant tyrant not the highest god. In the accepted story and how it is taught today this is when God marks and curses Cain with Immortality and sets him on his way to walk the Earth, trapping him in this material world that Cain hates so much, never aging trapping him and his spark of infinity forever.

Ophiuchus, the 13th Zodiac

By Jon Towers
Ophiuchus is a big constellation. Its name is from the Greek “Serpent Bearer” and is represented as a man wrestling or holding a giant snake.
It has been suggested that this constellation originally representing Nirah, A serpent god who is depicted with his upper half human and serpents for legs, much the way that Abracax is often depicted. To the ancient Greeks Ophiuchus was Apollo, later it is identified by the Romans as Asclepius who learned the secrets of keeping death at bay. Later in the myth Jupiter destroyed Asclepius with a lightning bolt, he did this to stop the knowledge of immortality to spread to all humans. Aratus describes Ophiuchus as trampling on Scorpio with is feet.  In the Renaissance it was symbolically linked to words spoken by YVH to the Serpent in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:15). John Milton used Ophiuchus in Paradise Lost, comparing Satan to a comet burning across the whole length of the constellation.

There is a lot of symbolism here in the way of why I feature the heck out of this constellation especially in the Gemini chapter. It is a fitting inclusion especially since we have a lot of weird stuff happening in the ancient sky anyways. Ultimately THE AGES story is the origin story of the character known as Cyrus the Dead Guy the ever living arch enemy of both the Dar al-harb and The Order of the Shining Hexagon.  The story YVH and Cain does a pretty good job of echoing the story of Jupiter and Asclepius, with only one or two minor tweaks. The way Aratus describes it both trampling on Scorpio (a scorpion, and a common symbol for the fictional radical Islamic terrorist group the Dar al-harb) and wrestling with a snake (a common symbol for the fictional sinister magic users The Order of the Shining Hexagon). It is also very appropriate for our Serpent to speak directly about the constellation since it is linked directly to God and the Serpent in The Garden of Eden.

In the upcoming graphic novel Book Seven of the New Apocrypha, THE AGES features the constellation Ophiuchus because of all this great symbolism that fits the story so well.

Saturn and the Ancient Sky, a Brief Introduction to a Bananas Theory

By Jon Towers
In the earlier ages, at least before the Deluge Earth’s sky would be radically different. None of the planets had really settled into their orbit and could have been wildly careening across the sky like an ancient game of Billiards The sky would be an alien one to us now. In the 1950’s and 60’s a Russian-Jewish independent scholar named Immanuel Velikovsky published a series of books and many lecture series about these cosmic cataclysms Worlds in Collision (1950),  Ages in Chaos (1952), Earth in Upheaval (1955) and  Peoples of the Sea (1977).

Some of the more interesting aspects of Velikovsky’s theory are:
·         Earth has suffered natural catastrophes on a global scale in Pre-history and recorded history.
·         These catastrophes are etched in the subconscious mind of men and are recorded in myths and legends. Myths and legends of a global flood for an example are present in almost all cultures around the whole planet.
·         The causes of these events are close encounters within our solar system including the other planets.
·         Earth used to orbit a purple dwarf star pre-Saturn body.
·         Venus was once originally a giant comet.
Velikovsky’s work spawned a sort of movement called The Electric Universe which is still chugging away today. This theory makes electricity a cosmic force on par or even more important than gravity. Imagine massive arcs of plasma sparking through space between the planets! These guys also point to fascinating ancient art as evidence. They have constructed a model of our near planetary bodies focusing on a Mars that orbits in weirdo ways casting a wide variety of shadow plays onto a nearby giant Saturn. And these shadow and light tricks are theorized to be the giant prehistorical IMAX movie that launched a million stories, myths and religions.

The idea of an Earth that orbits a pre-Saturn is fascinating especially when you consider what we know about Saturn today. Since the 70’s when we received pictures from a deep space satellite we sent out the planet of Saturn has become very, very fascinating. On the North Pole of Saturn floats a super massive hexagon shape spiral. It is large enough to fit several Earths inside this Hexagon. On the South Pole, there is a super massive vortex like swirling eye shape. It gives me the heebie jeebies to look at pictures of these structures.

In the upcoming graphic novel Book Seven of the New Apocrypha, THE AGES uses a few variations of The Electric Universe and the idea of Earth orbiting a pre-Saturn body.

The Drunken Serpent in the Garden of Eden

By Jon Towers

The identity of The Serpent in the Garden of Eden is commonly assumed to be  The Satan, The Devil or Lucifer in any of these cases he is probably seen as some sort of a fallen angel who is working to corrupt mankind. However the serpent has an ancient role in Gnostic text as an avatar for the god above God. This is a role that is later filled in some Gnostic stories by Jesus who teaches on behalf of Sophia and you can see great old art work of a snake coiled around a cross, you know like the Rod of Asclepius you see flashed all over the place in medical logos and symbols. It is interesting to note that Asclepius was a Greek god of healing  and medicine who figured out how to live forever and was eventually murdered by Zeus so he couldn’t teach the secret of immortality to the humans. (this is a great  older version of the cursing and marking of Cain by the way and I will point this out in my blog about Ophiuchus, the 13th Zodiac).

Instead of working to corrupt humans, The Serpent is a heroic figure working to enlighten mankind. To get these prisoners, these slaves, these people to eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, to make them like God, to attempt to level the playing field.

This fruit is commonly depicted as an apple and usually tied to some hogwash about Adam’s Adam Apple. However there are numerous theories about what kind of fruit it actually is. Rabbi Meir contends that the fruit in question is surely Grapes made into wine. This is sort of a theme in the sacred text that these Gnostic figures use wine as a connection with God or more accurately the god above God. (It is interesting to note that The Caduceus or the staff of the divine messenger Hermes is a winged staff with two snakes coiled around it, I feel like this Serpent imagery is linked to divine communication).  Here Gnostic Eve is connected to wine, the secrets of wine survive the flood with Noah who planted a vineyard and drank the wine and got drunk, all the way up to the Dionysusian Jesus Christ famously transmuting water into wine.

Yeah we all know that wine is used as a sacrament in the church, and in the New Testament it represents friendliness and love of your neighbor. But there is another sacred use for wine. For a Gnostic who doesn’t need a physical church to attend, a confessor for absolution or even clergy to preach, wine could have a shamanic effect. One might use the booze to alter his mental state to help sludge through this mundane reality to peer into the Pleroma.

Procession of the Ages, a Brief Summary of Astrological Ages

By Jon Towers
The tilted axis of the Earth causes it to slowly wobble as it rotates in space. This slowly moves the planets equinox across a changing background of stars. These stars include the signs of the zodiac, the equinox is in each of these astrological signs for between 2,000 – 2,500 years. Each of these increments are called an “Age” and the cycle of all twelve signs of the zodiac takes about 25,760- 25,960 years, this is called “The Great year”. Also each age parallels major changes on the development of Earth and Earth’s inhabitants. Mythologically and astrotheologically these ages are coded written and crafted into our stories, myths and religion from ancient times. Each of these ages is associated with heroes from the Jewish Torah, Jewish Apocrypha and the Christian Bible.

The Age of Leo
“The Golden Age” The creation of a habitable world. Associated with Jehovah or YVH itself.
The Age of Cancer
“The Age of the Great Mother” The birthing of life. Associated with Adam and Eve.
The Age of Gemini
“The Age of Communication, Trade and the Twins” Associated with Cain and Abel.
The Age of Taurus
“The Age of Earth, Agriculture” Associated with the stubbornness of Noah who built the Ark despite ridicule and hardship. Also, after the flood it is associated with Noah’s Great Grandson Nimrod who built the Tower of Babel despite warnings from Yvh.
The Age of Aries
“The Age of War and Fire” Associated with the militaristic law giver Moses. Moses came down from Mount Sinai and saw the Hebrews reverting back to an older age (The age of Taurus). They were burning offerings to a golden Apis Bull or Lunar Bull calf. He destroyed the idol, ground it up put it in water and made his people drink it. Then he killed three thousand Hebrews.
The Age of Pisces
“The Age of Monotheism, Deception and Fraud” Associated with Jesus and by extension The Roman Empire.
The Age of Aquarius
“The Age of Freedom” The Age of Aquarius’s hero has yet to be revealed remember though that  it was Jesus himself who reportedly said in Luke 22:10 “As you enter the city, a man carrying pitcher of water will meet you; he will lead you to his house.”
